Just yesterday, Google announced on Twitter that site owners and SEO experts can now have customisable search snippets using the new preview markup. These changes will start rolling out this week.
First introduced last September, this new markup will provide website owners and SEO professionals with more control over how their content will appear in snippets shown by Google’s search results. Offering great customisation, this new preview markup allows site owners to set the maximum length of a page’s snippet, the duration of a video’s preview, and even the size of thumbnail images.
As for people who don’t want their content to appear in the search snippets, this markup can help with that. For those who have already started using the said markup, you can expect the changes to be shown any day within the week. On the other hand, if you haven’t applied the new markup yet, then you will have to wait for Google to crawl your site again before you can see the changes.
Take note though that the new markup can only change how search snippets from the website appear. It doesn’t have any effect on the site’s search rankings.
