The Truth About Having Duplicate Meta Descriptions

Meta Descriptions

Any search engine optimisation expert who is up to date with the latest SEO trends knows that there’s a report in the Google Search Console which basically shows if you have duplicate meta descriptions in your web pages. This is referred to as the HTML improvements report. Furthermore, it documents potential issues that you might face by having meta descriptions which aren’t unique to each other. But the real question here is: Are duplicate meta descriptions a threatening problem?

John Mueller of Google has recently answered this question on Twitter. He said that they aren’t really a problem, and it doesn’t mean that you have a broken site either. The report showing duplicate meta description only serves as a reference and is not a sign that anything on your website is broken. Moreover, back in 2013, Matt Cutts said that it’s better to leave the descriptions blank instead of having duplicated ones.

Although it can be inferred that having duplicate meta descriptions or none at all isn’t a big issue, these are still considered a part of your SEO strategy. If you’re unsure of what to do about this, never hesitate to consult with an SEO company today.
