- Ranking Drop
Many SEO experts and site owners observed a large-scale ranking drop that began in the first week of March. Following this issue, some began to point fingers on the said ranking bug caused by the Yoast plugin 7.0. At the same time, these claims were reinforced when Yoast released a public apology on their webpage.
While some blame the Yoast plugin 7.0 bug for the ranking drops, others believe that this is not the case. For one, many who experienced the ranking drops were not using the Yoast SEO plugin 7.0. Secondly, there was also a major Google update that happened last March, which can be a possible cause of the ranking drops.
Furthermore, Google would not simply drop a large number of pages in rankings overnight due to a bug. John Mueller of Google explained that if sites are noticing changes in their rankings, it might be more related to normal search changes.
