Why You Should Not Worry If Structured Data From Desktop Version Is Missing From AMP

In a recent Google Webmaster Hangout, John Mueller of Google confirmed that it is all right not to have structured data in the AMP version of a website. Despite this, he reminded all SEO professionals and webmasters that the content’s desktop and AMP versions should still match.

AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages are an alternate version of a content designed to offer excellent user experience and can be downloaded quickly. When this version is shown, it is a must that there is equal content between the regular version of the web page and its AMP version.

With that in mind, Mueller explained that missing structured data from AMP versions will not cause that much of a problem and does not violate Google’s existing policies. However, SEO experts and webmasters must always check that everything in the content, navigation, and internal linking should be equivalent on AMP. By doing so, users will not find an incomplete content page when they visit AMP pages.

This instruction is reasonable given that structured data is meta data, which is designed to be used by search engine bots and browsers but typically hidden from users. The only exception for this are meta titles and descriptions.
