Search Traffic Declines In Pirate Websites After Google Algorithm Updates

where to find affordable expert seo services
The algorithm updates that Google launched recently were reported to reduce traffic to pirate websites. SEO experts report that pirate websites lost almost a third of their search traffic according to their year-over-year data analysis. Google’s algorithms keep pushing SEO agencies to update their expert SEO services and strategies for higher search traffic.

According to the published report, pirate websites lost a third of their search traffic from December 2019 to November 2020. However, the search traffic to pirate sites was already following a downward trend since January 2020 and became much worse in May not too long after the start of the pandemic.

Google launched its first two core algorithm updates on 13 January and on 4 May 2020. SEO experts think that it is not a coincidence the downward trend happened to be on these dates. And although the search engine giant recently launched another core algorithm update in December 2020, the SEO community thinks that it is too early to make assumptions and conclusions on what type of impact it had on pirate websites.

The first update in January only had a mild effect in preventing pirate sites from getting more traffic, but the core update in May caused the websites to have a 20 per cent drop in search traffic only for that month alone.

SEO professionals confirmed their research data by speaking to one of the biggest torrent websites about the significant drop of search traffic among pirate sites. Without comparing or sharing their findings, the torrent website reported that their Google search traffic had a 35 per cent decline over the past year, which confirms that all pirate websites have had the same experience.

The core algorithm updates that Google launches are supposed to have a huge impact on global search results. However, it will have a bigger effect on certain website categories compared to others. And just like in Google’s 2020 core updates, the algorithm hit torrent sites and other pirate websites harder than other site categories.

Pirate sites also saw a gradual decline in their website traffic. From December 2019 to November 2020, they excluded traffic from search engines and saw that visits to pirate websites declined by 10 per cent.

All of these might mean that the algorithm updates from Google combined with decreased interest from users may have contributed to the decline in search traffic to pirate websites.

Another factor that providers of expert SEO services should consider is the content. Compared to previous years, 2020 offered less content, which also reduced the content that websites could pirate.

For instance, there were only a limited number of blockbuster movies to download, and in the music industry, a lot of artists had to delay their projects. Moreover, most of the trending TV series during this time were aired on streaming websites.

All in all, there was a huge difference in the content that was produced between 2020 and the previous years. The year 2019 alone produced a lot of multi-million dollar movies, TV programs, music leaks from famous singers, and so on.

Although there was a huge possibility that Google’s core algorithms had a major effect on pirate websites, it still makes sense that they would lose search traffic due to external factors that may have affected their SEO.
